It dawned on me over the weekend how much my smartphone does for me. Yes, it does the usual: checking the weather, mapping my routes, and notifying me about new emails. But my phone also uploads my Instagram photos straight to Dropbox, texts me the weather at 7 AM each morning, and reminds me to pay the rent.

Yep, my phone does all this and more, and yours can, too, with a service called IFTTT (which stands for If This, Then That and is pronounced like “gift” without the “g”).

Apps on your phone, just like the Power Rangers or Captain Planet’s crew, are more awesome with their powers combined. IFTTT lets you make them work together, using what it calls “recipes.” Recipes combine triggers (for example, “If I’m tagged in a photo on Facebook”) with an action (for example, “Send me a text”). You can use any one of the many user-shared recipes and get started in mere seconds. The best part? You can create your own recipes, so the possibilities really are endless.

Here are 10 of favorite shared recipes that will immediately amp up what your phone can do for you.
